The club originally played their games on the
field where the current pitch is which was then owned by the
McCarthys. From 1952 to 1986 they played in Dave Lewis’s
field. When Dave died the Club spent the next couple of years
trying to acquire a suitable site. During this time the club
used the ‘sportfields’ belonging to Ned and Kathleen
Punch between Crecora and Kilpeacon Cross for training and
played their games at a variety of locations including Mary
Immaculate and Analog pitches.

In 1988 the club purchased a site of almost 8 acres in Skehanagh
for £30,500. The site which was originally owned by
Dinny Mangan was bought from Matthew Richardson, who had used
it to grow strawberries. This site required some leveling
work and reseeding, the provision of boundary walls, and entrance
etc. and this work was completed in 1991 with the first match
played on the 28th May 1991. The pitch was blessed by Fr.
Liam Enright c.c. and the first match was in the Junior Football
League against Lansdowne Rovers with Crecora winning by 3-6
to 2-8.
The first hurling match was against Na Piarsaigh
on the 30th May 1991 with Crecora again winning on a score
of 4-15 to 2-6.
The purchase and development of the pitch cost £75,000
but the sale of 3 sites together with local contributions
enabled to debt to be repaid in late 1996.

Construction of dressing rooms commenced in
1997 and was completed by 1998. Considerable effort have also
gone into the field itself in recent years in terms of drainage
to ensure good surface is available throughout the year. Cooperation
with FAS has also enabled much work to be done to the site
and helped in the general upkeep of the ground. The club is
currently looking at the next phase of development which will
involve setting up nets behind the main goals and the provision
of lights for winter training.

The ground is situated just beyond Crecora
Cross in the townland of Skehanagh Manister. To get there
proceed as follow - Crecora is approx 2 miles from the N20
(Junction for Patrickswell and Limerick Racecourse). Travel
along the R526 for about 2 miles until you come to a crossroads
with the Church directly across and Stone Age Brick and Stonework
at the cross. Turn right and go through Crecora cross (post
office and shop) and the entrance is approximately 300 yards
beyond the cross on the left hand side. |
